Mankatha Is Not Dropped : Venkat Prabhu

Published in Times Of India daily paper dated Dec 18, 2010

For all those who were upset about rumours that the shoot for Mankatha had been stalled, here's some good news.

Contrary to what a few media reports had claimed, work on Thala Ajith's 50th film is on in full swing. Rubbishing reports which had claimed that the film's shooting had been stalled due to financial constraints, the director of the film Venkat Prabhu clarifies, "I was really disturbed when I read those reports in a magazine, especially when the shoot for the film is going smoothly. We finished our Bangkok schedule and we are erecting a set in Chennai now, which looks like Dharavi in Mumbai. It's true that rain played spoilsport on one day and we had to cancel shoot. But that does not mean that we have financial constraints! When we have almost completed our talkie portions and the songs are ready, how can one spread rumours like these?"
The director also adds that Action King Arjun will replace Nagarjuna in this film for a pivotal role. "Nagarjuna could not juggle his dates and so we had to rope in Arjun for the role. It's an action subject with an ensemble cast comprising Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Vaibhav and Premgi to name a few. I am also introducing two new actors, both of whom have significant roles in the story. And the best part is that one of Mahakavi Bharathiar's great grandsons, Niranjan Bharathi, has penned lyrics for the album of Mankatha along with Vaali and my father Gangai Amaran. It's actually a great honour to have someone from that family on board," enthuses Venkat Prabhu.

Venkat Prabhu is also upbeat about the music of the album. "Yuvan Shankar has done a fabulous job in the film. I've also plans to include an item number for the film, for which I'll be roping in a big name. The audio launch is likely to be in March and the film is expected to hit the screens in May. Mankatha will be a special summer release," concludes the director.

‘Thala’ at Binny Mills

Binny Mills at Perambur has of late become the preferred destination of Kollywood filmmakers. Since shooting is taking place non-stop there, the premises is being fondly called as Kodambakkam of north Chennai.

Currently, the shooting of Ajith’s 50th film ‘Mankatha’ is going on at Binny Mills and this has become an enough reason to make the destination a hot and happening place.

As soon as they came to know that their ‘Thala’ has come to the area, Ajith fans thronged Binny Mills to have a glimpse of their matinee idol. It is said a stunt sequence is at present being shot there and Ajith has been giving his best to it.

Vaibhav Speaks About Mankatha

He made a mark as SP Charan's younger brother in his Tamil debut, Venkat Prabhu's Saroja. In Goa, he dramatically transformed from a village lad to a spunky Goan youth. In both these ventures, Vaibhav remained unlucky in love. But now, the tables have turned and the actor is romancing not one but two actresses in his next project, Eesan. Needless to say, he's grinning from ear-to-ear.

"Yes, I've two girls for company in this film. I play a cool, urban college student who loves to live life on his own terms. Director Sasikumar wanted someone who looked like a party animal. And since I'm that off-screen, he thought that I would fit the bill. In fact, Sasi said that he was looking for someone like me even when I was shooting for Goa," begins Vaibhav.

The actor, who started off his career in Tamil under the direction of his good friend Venkat Prabhu, reveals that Sasikumar was quite a taskmaster. "Both are extremely different when it comes to work. I never really felt that I was working while shooting with Venkat Prabhu. But Sasi was quite strict on the sets. He kept looking for perfection and would not let me relax until he got the right shot. However, he was a really cool person to work with."

Vaibhav joins Venkat's gang once again with Ajith's Mankatha, in which he essays a vital role. "I have not yet started shooting with Ajith sir but I'm way too scared. Though he is a humble person and has no airs of being star, the very thought of acting with him is making me nervous. Since it's going to be a gangster subject, I have to really look tough in front of Ajith sir. Venkat Prabhu has asked me to put on weight. From the moment he said those words, I've been only eating and sleeping," he chuckles.

The actor, who has done solo hero projects in Telugu, is yet to sign similar ones in Tamil. Quiz him why and pat comes the reply, "I am receiving offers but I do not want to take up a project just for the sake of it. I want to make my debut as a solo hero in Tamil with a bang. I'm not in a hurry."

Mankatha Star Reveals Role

Lakshmi Rai has not only bagged an offer to share the screen space with Ajith in Mankatha but her role is said to be very significant. If sources are to be believed, Lakshmi’s role is very important for Mankatha as it brings about the twist in the tale.

The actress has flown down to Bangkok along with the Mankatha unit where the intro song Vilayadu Mankatha is being shot.

The film’s director Venkat Prabhu earlier said that Yuvan Shankar Raja had scored the intro song and it has come out well beyond his expectations. The dance for this song is being choreographed by master Kalyan.

Arjun and Sneha join Mankatha

The making of actor Ajith Kumar’s 50th Mankatha seems to be full of surprises as there’s a new one springing up each day. The latest news about this film directed by Venkat Prabhu is that Action King Arjun will replace Tollywood star Nagarjuna in the film, the latter was roped in to play a parallel role in the film.

Reliable sources in the industry reveal that talks are in progress with the Vallakottai actor, who also enjoys a good market in Tollywood, for the role of a gangster.

Meanwhile, yet another actress has been included in the movie — Sneha, who now joins the ensemble cast comprising Ajith, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Vedhika, Manchu Manoj, Premgi Amaran and Ganesh Venkatram. Sneha was also a part of Venkat Prabhu’s previous film Goa where she did a cameo role and the two have been very close since then. According to industry insiders, Sneha will be seen alongside Arjun in Mankatha, the two have acted together previously in Chinna.

The entire unit along with the lead pair and Lakshmi Rai will be completing the filming of the opening song Vilayadu Mankatha in Bangkok.

Ajith is planning to return on November 17 to India, following which he will head straight to Madurai along with his wife Shalini for producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s wedding. The event is set to take place on November 18 at Tamukkam Ground in the temple town.

Yuvan speaks about mankatha to Times of India

This Navaratri was very special for Yuvan Shankar Raja. After all, the busy music composer got to spend some time with his family. “We celebrate Navaratri in a grand way; several singers come to our house and we have beautiful musical evenings. So, during those days, I stopped working by 6 pm and rushed home,” begins Yuvan.
He has more than a dozen projects in his hand, but Yuvan says he’s got it all worked out. “I usually work on two projects at a time. Now, I’m working on Vaanam and Mankatha,” he says.
Despite Vaanam being a remake of the Telugu hit Vedham, Yuvan says he hasn’t retained any tunes from the original. “Each character in Vaanam, be it Simbu or Anushka or Vega and Bharath, has a song and every song belongs to a different genre,” he says, “Usually, filmmakers release the album to promote the film. But, we will be launching a teaser promo and just a song from Vaanam to endorse the music album, which will be released later. Simbu and I have each sung a song for the teaser promo.” He adds, “I’m currently working on a single track for Vaanam and it will be on the lines of a futuristic club mix.”
Yuvan has also started work on Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha. “There will be six songs in the film and I’ve composed tunes for five of them. We are yet to have a sitting with the lyricists and finalise on who will be singing which song,” he reveals.
For Yuvan, Mankatha is special for various reasons. “I’ve already done four films with Ajith and I want our fifth film to be a huge hit. In fact, Ajith had called me earlier to say that our combination in this film should work wonders at the BO. So, I’m taking extra care while composing.”
Revealing details of the album, he says, “Appa (maestro Ilaiyaraaja) and I are planning to sing a pathos number for the album. While appa will be singing in Tamil, I will be singing the English lyrics.”
Yuvan has also finished work on Bala’s Avan Ivan and Ameer’s Aadhi Bhagavan. “A full-fledged Hindi track, sung by Mohit Chauhan (of Masakkali… fame), will be the highlight of Aadhi Bhagavan,” he adds.
Yuvan will also be making his Bollywood debut soon with Mani Ratnam’s production. “Though I’d composed a single track for Siddharth’s Striker, this film will be my proper Bollywood debut. The film, directed by Mani Ratam’s associate Shivakumar, has Vivek Oberoi in the lead,” he says.
While Yuvan’s film graph is soaring, he’s also excited about his first live concert in Chennai on December 18. “I’m thrilled beyond words. I’ve done concerts internationally, but the experience of performing in my home city is just inexplicable. I will be altering the BGM or adding a few more keys to the songs. For instance, I’m planning to perform the remixed version of Oru Naal… from Pudupettai. This will be an experience of a lifetime,” he signs off.

Earlier Trisha and Vedika were committed for thala's 50th movie Mankatha. But now Vedika has been relieved from the movie.Mahat Raghavendra's tweets have confirmed the same.

Yuvan and Ilayaraja sing for Ajith in Mankatha

For the first time, Maestro Ilayaraja and Yuvan Shankar Raja will sing a song in Ajith Kumar’s 50th film 'Mankatha'. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been constantly involved in the production of best tunes. About the album of ‘Mankatha’, he says that the songs will be far beyond than his earlier compositions 'Billa' & 'Aegan'.
In the past, Isaignani has crooned various songs for Yuvan Shankar Raja, but this will be the very beginning of this trend where two legends of different times are coming for Thala.
It seems that the songs will be completed before the shooting of ‘Mankatha’, which is to go on floors by October 25.
So let us expect the best and wish Yuvan all the best and we request him to give us the best out of his efforts.

Test Shooting Goes Well

Test shooting for Mankatha started today. Mahat starring in the movie said "the test shoot went on great!  Really happy to be a part of such a gud team"

He has thanked director Venkat Prabhu for including him in the team.

Mankatha Not a Hollywood Remake

Mahat from the Mankatha team has confirmed that the movie is not a Hollywood remake. Initial rumours were that Mankatha is the remake of a Hollywood movie. Mahat through twitter has confirmed that its Venkat Prabhu's original script.

Yuvan Composing Ajith's intro song in Mankatha

We are well aware that Yuvan has started composing tunes for Mankatha. Now the latest news is that Yuvan has started Composing Ajith's intro song in Mankatha.

Here is the message from his twitter account
"Composing for mankatha second tune, its ajith intro song so taking special care of it! Namma thala illayaaa!!!!!! Everybody say mankatha!"

The song should come out in flying colors.

Mankatha in Endhiran

Movie buffs who booked tickets for Endhiran were in for a special surprise as the Bangalore PVR Cinemas showed a teaser of Mankatha during the screening of the film. The teaser was shown twice, once before the film begins and the other during the interval.Mankatha, which is being directed by Venkat Prabhu, has Ajith playing the lead. Endhiran has already turned out to be a mega hit with the film grossing more that 100 crores during the first week of its release.

Yuvan Starts Composition for Mankatha

Yuvan Shankar Raja has started composing tunes for Venkat Prabhu’s project ‘Mankatha’.

Yuvan’s compositions for Venkat Prabhu movies so far have been chart toppers right from Chennai-28 till Goa, so rest assured ‘Mankatha’ that has Ajith as the trump card will be no exception. And did you people have a look at the ‘Mankatha’ posters, one sight and that gets you into retro mode!

Ajith is in focus and is accessorized with sunglasses, while aiming a gun and below him is the logo of the movie that has the four symbols of the playing cards! Creatively designed, we should agree! Recall, Venkat Prabhu’s previous movie logos, ‘Chennai-28’ was like blocks in an inland-letter envelope, while ‘Saroja’ was like a name board and ‘Goa’ with a bottle and wine glass hidden within. Going by the ‘Mankatha’ poster, Ajith fans would be delighted to see the lower-right corner where it says the movie is coming in Summer 2011! Are we hearing the ‘thalai’ screams already?

As the director says, the movie will be a fun ride, and with Ajith in it you can expect it to be a roller-coaster ride! ‘Mankatha’ is produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri for Cloud Nine Movies.

Ajith & Trisha play the lead pair

‘Mankatha’ is springing up more surprises as days are going by. The Venkat Prabhu – Ajith film has already crated a sensation with its first official teaser.
Now the star cast assembling for film is going to put all jaws down. ‘Mankatha’ is going to be the real multi-starrer after many years. So in keeping the sprits high Venkat Prabhu has brought together Ajith, Nagarjuna, Lakshmi Rai, Premji Amaran, Ganesh Venkatraman, debutant Mahat.
Now the latest addition to ‘Mankatha’ is Trisha. Sources say there are a few other big names confirmed for the film and they will be revealed soon. The pre-production work of ‘Mankatha’ is almost complete and Venkat Prabhu may roll the camera anytime from now. The film will have 6 songs and two of them are complete and ready.
Being the 50th film Ajith, most of Ajith’s favourite friends in the industry are doing cameos in ‘Mankatha’. Will Silambarasan also be there? Wait for the moment.
Another thing our sources said was that the role swapping by Ajith and Nagarjuna in Tamil and Telugu version is not happening and the two big stars will play the same role in both the version. It is also categorically said ‘Mankatha’ will not be dubbed in Telugu and a separate independent version will be shot with the same rich cast.

Mankatha Shooting Starts

Ajith's 50th film "MANKATHA"is gearing up in high speed. A test shoot for the movie was performed today (Oct 19, 2010). Artists including Premgi Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra and Vaibhav Reddy took part in the test shoot. Shooting of Ajith's Mankatha will commence on Oct 25, 2010.

Srilankan Model in Mankatha?

Ever since the announcement of Mankatha happened, news from the camp never ceases to stop. Venkat Prabhu and his team are busy with the first schedule of the movie. Mankatha, a multi-starrer, will also have Nagarjuna acting alongside Ajith. Recent developments indicate that Sri Lankan model and actress Jacqueline Fernandez has been roped in for the movie. She will play an important role in the movie. Jacqueline has already debuted in Bollywood in the movie Aladin starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ritesh Deshmukh.

It is interesting to note that Neetu Chandra and Lakshmi Rai are also a part of the movie. As multi-starrers are a rarity in Tamil cinema, Mankatha has already raised the expectations in Kollywood. This being Ajith's 50th, we can expect a cracker of a movie.

STR likes Mankatha Teaser

STR flew to London a few days back to fulfill his commitment for his next movie Poda Podi. STR is not the one to miss out on Kollywood proceedings. He is always in touch with the latest happenings through twitter. A good example for this is his tweet a couple of days back which read "Guys pls update me on the latest tamil release and reports".

Now, having seen the teaser of Mankatha, which was released on the 20th of August, STR is mighty pleased. His latest tweet on his page reads "Mankatha teaser is awesome !!! Very gud ma :)". We are sure he will be waiting to get back to Chennai to watch the premiere of latest Tamil movies.
